How can I make a donation to your non-profit organization?

You can make a donation through our website’s secure donation portal, or by contacting our office for assistance.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Depending on your location and the non-profit’s status, your sponsorship donations might be tax-deductible, providing a financial benefit as well. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

Can I specify where my donation should be used?

Absolutely, you can designate your donation to a specific program or project. We also offer general donation options that support our overall mission.

How much of my donation goes directly to the cause?

A significant portion of each donation directly funds our programs. We strive to keep administrative costs low, ensuring your donation has the greatest impact.

What do I get as a Child Sponsor?

By sponsoring a child, you’re providing access to education, skills, and resources that can break the cycle of poverty. This empowers the child to have better opportunities and a brighter future.

You’ll receive a welcome kit introducing you to the child you’re sponsoring. This might include a photo, a profile with details about their background, interests, and aspirations, and sometimes even a handwritten letter or drawing from the child. You’ll also receive notifications about the child’s important milestones, such as birthdays, academic achievements, or special events.

Perhaps the most meaningful benefit of child sponsorship is the sense of fulfillment and joy that comes from making a positive impact on a young person’s life. And sponsoring a child from a different country or cultural background can offer you a broader perspective on global issues and challenges.

What is the duration of a Child Sponsorship?

A child sponsorship usually lasts for a number of years as the child advances in their education and the wider community development project progresses. Research has shown that a solid education is critical in lifting children and their families out of poverty. However, a sponsor may terminate the sponsorship at any time.

At times a child sponsorship ceases when the child and their family move away from the area where the community development project is being undertaken. When this happens Bangalore City Mission will let you know the reason why and help identify another child for you to sponsor if that is your wish.

What if my financial circumstances change?

Sponsors are free to suspend or cancel their payment at any time and for any reason.

Can I correspond with my sponsored child?

Yes, you certainly can. The children love to receive letters from their sponsors and particularly like receiving postcards or photos. We ask that you not include your personal address in letters to your sponsor child as doing so can lead to unsolicited requests for assistance. You would write to your sponsored child mentioning the Child’s Name and sponsorship code number you will receive on sponsoring the child through the Bangalore City Mission website. We forward your letter to your sponsored child. Both the original and translation are then delivered to the child. Many children in the program are learning English and many are capable of reading the letter themselves. We regret that on some occasions, due to the vagaries of the international post, letters do not arrive.

Will I receive a reply to my letters?

The children love to write to their sponsors so you can expect letters in response. Our overseas development partners coordinate this process. Communication in the developing world is not as rapid as we experience here so a little patience can be needed.

If you haven’t had a reply to your letter within three months please contact the Bangalore City Mission office at ( +91 80 – 25443745) or email priya@bangalorecitymission.org

Can I send gifts?

Sending gifts can be very difficult due to the tax and customs charges applied in the recipient country. Sponsors from India are welcome to do so. These charges are often beyond the financial capacity of the organization and often exceed the value of the gift. It can also be a source of difficulty where one child receives gifts when others do not.

If you do send a gift, we recommend it be kept to a size that can fit into an envelope no larger than an A4 size piece of paper. Stickers, pencils or a small book make good gifts.

And, if you would like to do something extra for your sponsored child at a special time of year then please contact the Bangalore City Mission at priya@bangalorecitymission.org or log on to www.bangalorecitymission.org

What about visiting my sponsored child?

A visit to meet your sponsor child is a great way to see firsthand how your sponsorship is contributing to their life. Bangalore City Mission would be delighted to organise, an opportunity for you to visit.

Due to the logistics involved (eg remoteness, communication), we ask that you provide plenty of notice so that our development partners can make all the necessary arrangements to ensure that the visit is safe, enjoyable, and beneficial to both you and the child.

Because Bangalore City Mission owes a duty of care toward children in the sponsorship program it is our policy to ask sponsors to undertake a police check (for foreign citizens) or produce a proof of Identity (for Indian Citizens) before any arrangements can be made to visit the sponsor child.

The Sponsor would be allowed to meet the child only at the Bangalore City Mission office and no other location.

We realize that some sponsors may find this requirement onerous, however, current child protection practices make this approach not only prudent but also necessary. The welfare of the children must remain our paramount concern.
